Mr. Dunbar (A.K.A. Dunbar) had been a part of our family for the past 25 years.  He is a 27 year old Grulla Quarter Horse Gelding and has been the backbone to our family’s riding stablesince it began many years ago.  Not only has he taught me so much about riding when I was younger, he has also taught  our boys as well.  He is such a special boy and member of our family, we were very saddened to hear his diagnosis to his sudden coughing spells this New Years. Dunbar has a heart murmur.  Because the complications to this can lead to a heart attack, at any given time, we were advised to retire him.  While we are hopeful that he has more years with us, in light of this news, we decided to do an impromptu photo session with our boy.  The retired life is doing Dunbar well, with his coughing spells happening less, and he gets to spend the rest of his days extra pampered.  It is also pretty cool, that our little Weston, at 11 weeks old (pictured at the end of this post) is the last person to ride Mr.Dunbar, and Mr. Dunbar is the first horse he’s ever ridden :)
